My 20 gig Ipod Photo is one gadget that I could not live without. The Ipod Photo has everything one could ask for in an MP3 player and more. The capacity of the 20 gig Ipod photo is much greater than that of many other MP3 players out there, and the Ipod Photo's slim design makes it easy to carry with you anywhere you go. It will hold up to 15,000 songs or 5,000 photos. That's 15 hours of playback. The Ipod Photo is capable of handing your entire music collection and your digital photo collection. The Ipod Photo will play slideshows of your photos to your music. I love having my photos with me so I can share them with friends whenever I want to. 

The Ipod Photo comes in either white or black and has a snazzy silver backing. The Ipod has more accessories available then any other MP3 player on the market. You can dress your Ipod Photo up with the many skins and cases that are available. Snap your Ipod Photo into the compatible alarm clock, and bam, you have a custom alarm to wake you each morning. They even have a boom box that is waterproof so you can take your Ipod photo to the beach with you without worrying that it will get ruined. If you are looking for an MP3 player that has many available accessories then the Ipod Photo is certainly worth a look.

Apple Itunes has hundreds of songs for download and even has audio books and workouts that you can download and listen to on your Ipod Photo for a reasonable price. The Ipod Photo has an FM transmitter that you can buy separately and use with any stereo that picks up the FM frequency. I love this feature for traveling and I often listen to audio books on long trips.

A couple of things that I would change about the Ipod Photo would be the availability of a software program, compatible to those already on the market, to allow users to read ebooks from the Ipod Photo. I would also like to mention that the software on the Ipod Photo is proprietary, and that is a drawback to many people. It really doesn't bother me that much, but it can be a hassle at times. The Ipod Photo also tends to cost a bit more than some other compatible MP3 players.

The Ipod Photo is a great MP3 player. Its capacity alone makes this MP3 player one worth taking a look at, and add to that the ability to carry your photographs with you make the Ipod Photo one of my favorite things.

Browsing for music…

When you’re not logged in the start page shows a tag cloud of “artists happening now”, i.e. artists that have a lot of free stuff out now. You can zoom over to “songs happening now” and “bloggers on our radar” by clicking the small buttons at the bottom of the tag cloud.

Muzic lets you search for artists, songs, or bloggers. But to discover new bands, “popular tags” or “songs by genre” are a better starting point.

The results page is a list of posts that match your query. Posts are created by the bloggers that provide the free MP3 downloads. Each post contains details about the song and a link back to the the site where it was posted originally.

Click on the song name to launch the song’s card, which contains some more information, as well as lists of more songs from the same blog and all songs from that artist below the card.

Downloading mp3s…

Once you found an interesting song, click > Get Song in its bottom left. You will be redirected to the original source. Muzic will stay with you though, as it is minimized to a small bar at the top of the page.

Now you can either download the song from the respective blog or from Muzic’s top navigation bar. If you decide for Muzic, > right-click the green > Download MP3 button and select > Save Link As… from the menu. Now select a destination and you’re ready to save the song.

To return to Muzic, click the << back link in its navigation bar at the top.

In case an artist uploaded a song to Muzic, you can directly download the MP3 from the respective song card. Uploaded songs can also be “previewed”, i.e. listened to in full through the Muzic player, which launches in a separate frame at the bottom of the page.

The community…

When you’re logged in you can add songs to your faves, follow other listeners or artists that have uploaded songs, and update your profile.

In all honesty, the profile features and community aspects are a little underdeveloped. Unless I missed out on something important, there is no real exchange between users. You can see what others added as their faves and follow them, but that’s about it. On the other hand that isn’t too bad. After all, you’re in for the latest free music and not for even more distractions.

Has Coby dared go down the same route as Apple, by releasing an MP3 player sans controls? It's not clear how the Micro player works, but judging by the lack of buttons it'd appear the controls are in the headphones.

I do like the design though, and as it's Coby it'll probably be dirt cheap too. Inside, 2GB of storage will hold your choons, and it can be connected to your PC via USB.
